ACI N9K-C9364-GX

Switch LEAF (default role) or SPINE 2RU, support 12,8 Tbps bandwidth and over 4,3 bpps (billion packets per-sec) across n. 64 port fixed 40/100G QSFP28.

The N9K-9364C-GX switch is provided with the role of SPINE (by default its role is that of Leaf with only ports 63 and 64 dedicated for fabric discovery); therefore a reboot process after re-assigned role of the switch is necessary.

The conversion from Leaf to Spine can be performed by APIC-UI controller and once performed, the ports range from 1 to 64 become fabric port to which it is possible to connect Leaf switches (the range from 1 to 48 is preferred, whereas the port 61 and 62 are used to connect IPN for inter-pod netowork.

Conversion mode with APIC:

The N9K-C9364C-GX switches with their default role of Leaf, through ports 63 and 64 (port discovery) connected to Leaves where are present the APIC, will be discovered by controllers like Leaf.

Following the change role from APIC-UI, click on the node-id and then set the switches to Spine mode; wait for the configuration to be submitted where the APIC pushes towards the node, and reboot them. Once these are active again, register the node as Spine to the whole ACI Fabric.

The compatible version starting from 5.1.4 for all node Fabric.

Datascheet ports:

  • n. 64 ports 100 Gigabit QSFP28
  • n. 2 management port, with one RJ45 and the second SFP
  • n. 1 port console
  • n. 1 port USB

The diagram highlightes the logical ports numbers:

Note: ports in green support MACsec

The availability to use breakout links is applicable only to port with odd values (for example to all ports in line 1) and consequently ports with even value (the one in line 2) are disabled

ALTERNATIVE TO CONVERT N9K-C9364 from LEAF (default role) to SPINE

modify the file crdcfg_card_mode.cfg  setting 0 instead 1

The “0” indicates that the switch is configured as a spine switch

The “1” indicates that the switch is configured as a leaf switch.

Then on the switch, follow the procedure to clean reload it with the below commands to let the APIC discover this first leaf.

acidiag touch clean

  setup-clean-config.sh

  reload

Once all these devices are clean reloaded, you then can physically connect the 1st spine back into the fabric and let the rest of the switches being discovered.
